Troubled Past
In 1989, Father Lastiri hired a convicted felon who a few years later molested a young boy in a Visalia parish rectory. Court files indicated that, most likely, Father Lastiri was in a homosexual relationship with the man. Police also found sexually explicit photos, videos, women's undergarments, and children's toys in the rectory. The assailant was sent to prison. In 2004, Father Lastiri was disciplined by then Bishop John T. Steinbock for using tens of thousands of dollars in parish funds for personal gain and for soliciting sex with men on the Internet.  While at St. Patrick's in Merced, Father Lastiri advertised for sex on gay websites, while on church business including a papal visit and misusing parish funds. See Press.

Trouble Continues
In 2018, Father Lastiri was discovered to have an active YouTube Channel in which he liked, subscribed, and listed as "favorites" numerous graphic homosexual videos, music, and a podcast since 2008. When he was notified by Bishop Ochoa that parishioners were aware of the channel, material from the channel began to disappear. See YouTube.  In addition, numerous current parishioners have offered testimony that Father Lastiri seriously contradicts Catholic doctrine. See Testimony.
